The Last Jedi

Rebel Dawn and Rogue One

I was recently daydreaming about how similar these stories are, at least in terms of the end of the main female character. I will imagine that the Rogue One writers were influenced by the early EU. One can only hope for similar nods to the relevant background material for the upcoming Han Solo spin-off movie.

Operation Skyhook (from Rebel Dawn)
From the Wookieepedia summary:

...Bria Tharen leads a rebel raid on Toprawa in which rebel spies transmitted the plans for the Death Star I to Leia Organa aboard the Tantive IV. Tharen and her squadron were all killed in the raid, but the plans were successfully transmitted. This was the "first victory" of the Rebels.

Operation Fracture (and follow-on action, from Rogue One)
Rogue One action at Scarif summary (basically the same):

Jyn Erso leads a rebel raid on Scarif in which rebel spies transmitted the plans for the Death Star I to Leia Organa aboard the Tantive IV. Erso and her squad are all killed in the raid, but the plans were successfully transmitted.

Hold the position long enough to send DS-I plans to Leia, on a ship in orbit.

Then die.

New Anthology

Just making an appearance on the Interwebs is news of a new collection of Star Wars short stories, titled From a Certain Point of View. Apparently this compilation of tales focuses on background characters from Episode IV: A New Hope. While I disagree with the assertion that this is a "unique, new anthology"--after all, the three Tales from the... anthologies did that, as did the "What's This Guy's Story?" campaign run by WotC--I am excited by this announcement. It's cool that the proceeds will go to a charity that puts books into the hands of young people, and I'm excited to read these new takes on that first film in our beloved Galaxy Far, Far Away.
